The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) is a prestigious accreditation body that operates under the Egyptian Accreditation Council, serving as the sole authority for accrediting conformity assessment bodies in Egypt and the Middle East, including various conformity testing activities.

The council was established by Presidential Decree No. 312 of 1996 and reorganized by another Presidential Decree No. 248 of 2006, making it the only national body for evaluating and accrediting conformity assessment bodies in Egypt. As such, it plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of standards and boosting trust in Egyptian products and services.

Establishment of the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC)

The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) was created by Presidential Decree No. 312 in 1996 and updated under Decree No. 248 in 2006 to grant it technical, administrative, and financial independence. EGAC is the sole national institution responsible for evaluating and accrediting various conformity assessment bodies, including testing laboratories, calibration laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies for management systems, medical testing laboratories, product certification bodies, and providers of proficiency testing services.

EGAC operates as a non-profit government entity under the Ministry of Trade and Industry and is overseen by a Board of Directors consisting of 14 members representing various stakeholders and concerned bodies.

• Providing evaluation services to support government regulations and initiatives, improving quality and reliability.

• Establishing mutual recognition agreements with international and regional accreditation bodies to foster the exchange of expertise and standards, reduce the need for multiple evaluations, and facilitate import-export processes.

EGAC’s Goal

EGAC aims to achieve mutual recognition with international accreditation bodies, thereby enhancing Egypt’s reputation and supporting the national economy. The council works towards this objective by adopting and applying international standards across the various processes and criteria that conformity assessment bodies follow.

EGAC’s Policy

EGAC operates under a clear policy that focuses on neutrality, confidentiality, and integrity in all its activities to achieve its objectives in alignment with its quality manual. This policy ensures the consistency of the accreditation granted and enhances transparency in the processes and standards adopted by EGAC, thus fostering trust in both local and international markets.
